The man, who did not want to be named, claims to have seen a strange object in the sky above Overton, near Wrexham, at about 6am on Friday.

This is the latest in a string of UFO sightings in the Wrexham area in recent months, prompting one flying saucer enthusiast to dub the region "a UFO hot spot".

In July last year, the Evening Leader had its largest ever internet response to a video, posted on its website, of 'UFOs' which had been seen by a number of people over Borras.

Referring to the latest sighting, the Overton resident said: "I don't want to be made a laughing stock, but I thought I'd let you know I saw a UFO this morning over Overton at around 5.40am.

"I viewed it for three minutes or so. I hope it was a plane or something but I was watching it for a while and it didn't ring of a plane to me. I'm just hoping someone else has seen it so I don't look silly."

One of Britain's most famous UFO incidents, dubbed North Wales' very own 'Roswell incident' allegedly occurred on the Berwyn Mountains in 1974.

On the evening of January 23, dozens of witnesses from across Lancashire and Cheshire had called the police earlier in the evening and reported seeing a strange formation of lights flying erratically over the skies of the north-west.

At about 8.30pm that night, a large disc-like obnject was seen falling from the sky over what was when Clwyd and apparently crashed into the Berwyn mountains near Llandrillo, leaving an orange glow which radiated in the sky over the spot for a few minutes.

Police and military apparently converged on the crash site within minutes, cordoning the area off from public view.

What is most bizarre is that at the same time as the 'crash', tremors were recorded, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale, which shook nearby villages.

Due to the volume of 'Freedom of Information' requests on UFO sightings, the Ministry of Defence plans to release a total of 160 files dating back to the inception of their UFO project in 1950.

The files will be given to the National Archives in Kew and the first are expected to be made available in the spring.

The baffling phenomenon of UFO sightings over Britain

London, June 27 : A doctor of psychology at Cardiff University claimed that he witnessed a UFO over the Brecon Beacons - the third reported sighting in Britain, following observations by the Army and police.

Dr Simon Griffey and his son Jack were driving near Llangynidr Mountain in the Brecon Beacons, Powys, when they spotted lights over Talybont-on-Usk.

"I've had loads of theories proposed by friends and neighbours but none of them add up," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

"There was no noise whatsoever, it was a bit eerie. I've driven over this mountain for 17 years and have never seen anything like it.

"There were seven lights and having read the description from the soldiers in Shropshire, there are some similarities. They were the same sort of colour and the same spherical shape that they reported.

"I know I wasn't seeing things because Jack saw exactly the same as I did - and two other cars pulled over to look," they added.

Sceptics have suggested the sightings could be huge man-made lanterns floating into the sky.

However, the boffin, of Llangynidr, said: "It was too big. It was way above the horizon and stayed there for 15 minutes. It was a bit smaller than a full moon - quite big and high up."

Jack recorded the phenomenon on his mobile phone - but when they examined the pictures later, they found only three of the seven lights showed up.

Griffey said: "The police helicopter crew said they failed to record the sighting on their equipment.

"If it had been a natural phenomenon you surely would have been able to photograph all of it. I'd like someone to explain - because I have no idea what to make of it."

"There is no logical explanation. I think it's plausible that there could be life on other planets," he added.

A SMALL Territory community is still reeling with shock after four UFOs descended on their Outback homes.

Families spent hours in fear as what appeared to be three spaceships hovered in the distance with another just metres above their houses.

The drama at Marlinja, population 112 and 730km south of Darwin, began at 8pm on Sunday.

Resident Janie Dixon said it started as an "ordinary" night.

"The kids were on the basketball courts, shooting a few hoops, and I was indoors talking to my two nieces when we heard a strange, loud noise," she said.

"We ran outside but at first we couldn't see anything -- it was really dark and we could hear the sound.

"The sound was horrible. It sounded like something was going past.

"We thought it was a jet. I saw what I thought at first was the evening star, the first star you usually see at night.

"But then we saw three red lights in the distance, and the sound kept getting louder.

"The ground felt like it was shaking, so we ran inside and shut the doors.

"My nephew and niece were looking out through curtains. The thing came closer, circled around the basketball courts and then came so close above our house.

"The kids at the basketball courts ran -- two girls stood there looking towards the sky.

"They tried to see what it was but all they could see was this bright red light in the pitch black."

Ms Dixon said the UFO hovered above the homes for what seemed like a couple of hours.

She said at one stage the phone rang, but went dead when she tried to answer it.

"Then the light in the house became so bright, it was like we were sitting in a football stadium," she said.

"After a while, after the things all disappeared... I think it was about 11pm by then.

"We went outside and were just sitting around drinking tea and talking about it all. The kids were put to bed.

"We heard the noise again and it came back, but disappeared again moments later.

"We were all really frightened.

"It was a big shock and I couldn't sleep."

Liverpool under threat of a UFO led 'alien invasion'!

London, June 26 : Reported UFO sightings in Liverpool have sparked fears that the city is on the brink of facing an 'alien invasion.'

Former policeman Steve Rafferty, 50, and his daughter Emma, saw 13 orange orbs and filmed the unexplained phenomena on a mobile phone.

Another witness captured footage and radio stations were jammed with callers reporting sightings.

"They looked as if they were searching for somewhere to land. Liverpool could face an alien invasion," The Sun quoted one witness, as saying.

The sightings came as three soldiers reported seeing UFOs spinning over an army base in Shropshire, in the west of the country.

The 13 flying objects were captured on film and are now reportedly being investigated by army officials.

A schoolboy photographed a UFO on the same day that three soldiers reported their mystery sighting.

Shaun Williams, 12, went out to snap a light aircraft performing stunts above his home in Llanelli, South Wales.

Later, he looked at the pictures on his digital camera - and realised he had also captured a saucer shape against a clear blue sky.

"I couldn't believe it when I looked back at my pictures and this strange object was there," Shaun said.

BONNIE Lewis is walking her dog last Friday night when these objects — see pic, above — appear in the sky overhead.

The 29-year-old, who is out with boyfriend Colin Middlemore, films the bizarre cylinders on her mobile phone.

Bonnie, of Tamworth, Staffs, says: “I ignored them, thinking they were satellites.

“But when I looked closer it was clear they weren’t. I’m not into sci-fi, but they weren’t from this planet.”

The MoD incident

SOLDIERS on night patrol are stunned to see UFOs hovering in formation above their Army base.

One squaddie captures this eerie image on his phone and sends it to MoD chiefs.

Two more colleagues also spot the startling “fleet” above a barracks in Shropshire. Just hours later, three South Wales helicopter police officers watch in awe as a huge object rises from the ground to meet them as they land near Cardiff.

The crew log the incident with their superiors. Less than an hour later, two cabaret performers report a strange light in the sky near Shrewsbury.

Expert: Official inquiry is vital

UFO expert Nick Pope studied The Sun’s amazing footage last night and said: “Now there HAS to be an official inquiry.”

Nick, who spent three years as official UFO investigator at the Ministry of Defence, said after viewing film shot by soldiers in Shropshire: “The MoD and Civil Aviation Authority need to look at this.

“They need to interview witnesses, analyse the film and check both civil and military radar to see if any unusual activity was logged.

“An important factor is that this was shot from a military base — and the military tend to make good witnesses.

“This object seems to be pulsing through virtually the entire spectrum and that’s unusual. It’s not something an ordinary aircraft or satellite would do, and it’s too slow to be a meteor or a shooting star.”

A SHAKEN soldier told last night how he saw THIRTEEN UFOs spinning in the skies above his military barracks.

He was among three squaddies who spotted the objects while out on night patrol.

He filmed them on his mobile phone and reported the close encounter to Army top brass.

Ministry of Defence experts were studying his report and video yesterday — after ordering the soldier and his pals NOT to say anything else about the incident.

The sighting, near Market Drayton, Shrops, came two hours before helicopter police officers reported an encounter with a huge craft 80 miles away near Cardiff.

And three hours before a couple claimed they were followed by a strange light in the sky along the A5 near Shrewsbury.

Yesterday further mind-boggling evidence emerged as dog walker Bonnie Lewis, 29, told how she filmed seven UFOs at Bromsgrove, Worcs, last Friday.

The soldier recalled how he saw the amazing “craft” just after 11pm on Saturday, June 7.

He said: “I was on duty in the guard room when the other boys outside began shouting. I went out to see what the commotion was about and could see thirteen craft in the skies.

“They were zig-zagging, but I filmed two before they disappeared. They were like rotating cubes with multiple colours.

“I made a full report to my commanding officers and gave them my footage. The other lads were as amazed by it as I was.”

A 19-year-old private on patrol said he also saw the “fleet”.

The soldier, who asked not to be named, said: “I saw these things flying in the sky and I told my guard commander.

“There were about 30 lights passing over for a few minutes, very high but not at a great speed. They were bright red. Another soldier saw them too.”

An MoD spokesman said: “We deal with any UFO sightings to see if there was a military threat.”

The Sun told last week how helicopter cops were confronted by an object as they attempted to land at their base near Cardiff the same night.

Cabaret duo Katy Cunnion and Russell Quinn claimed they were pursued by the light in the sky for nearly an hour at 1am the following morning.

And last night Bonnie told of seeing cylinder-shaped craft.

She said: “They weren’t from this world. They made no sound and had flashing dots inside.”

This guy is spot-on. The UFO flying over Brighton around 2000 was captured clearly on film by the Sussex police force helicopter which gave chase before it disappeared over the Sussex coast line headed out to sea.

There is no doubt that it was a UFO!

The UFO was a vertically aligned cylinder moving at some speed in a linear direction. This is incontrovertible evidence.

The fact that The Sun and other mainstream publications are now giving credence to these numerous sightings - with a serious tone - suggests that something much bigger is goin' on.

I predicted at the beginning of the year that some governments would make a public disclosure about the existence of UFOs - whether Alien or Human - the latter being obviously the most logical explanation.
